Cres

A significant turn in the city development dynamic happens when in mid 15th century Cres (instead of Osor) became the capital of the venetian goverment for the west Kvarner islands. The Venetian Republic enhances the city defence system. Considering the traditional maritime orientation of the population, a nautical education school was opened in Cres. The number of inhabitants of the Cres cadastral municipality culminated in 1869.
